Our History
ACTION Sertoma is a NFP 501(c)(3) that was chartered on November 11, 1967 as a club by our Founding Members, Roger Harpold, Gene Esposito, Sr. and Richard Finger. In 1971, Action Sertoma (originally chartered as Alsip Sertoma) was instrumental along with the Evergreen and POW-R Sertoma Clubs in establishing the Sertoma Centre, now Sertoma Star Services, and the Sertoma Speech and Hearing Center. These facilities provide state-of-the-art services and programs to individuals with intellectual/developmental disabilities, hearing impaired and promoting hearing health. Additionally, Sertoma Star Community Mental Health and Counseling has been a leader in supporting those living with mental illness. All these services provide choices and opportunities for persons with disabilities and their families through a culture of innovation and caring to enrich their lives and maximize their independence.
